Huasheng News reported on April 2 that Hong Kong stocks opened higher in early trading, with oil and gas stocks leading the market's gains. As of press time, China National Petroleum Corp. has risen by more than 7%, China Oilfield Services has risen by more than 10%, and China National Offshore Oil Corp. and China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. have risen by more than 4%.

On the news, Mexico's state-owned Petroleum Corporation plans to stop some crude oil exports in the next few months, a move that will further reduce supply on the global market.

International oil prices rose overnight, with New York oil futures closing at US$83.71 per barrel, an increase of more than 0.6%, hitting a five-month high. London's Brent oil futures June contract closed at $87.42 a barrel, an increase of about 0.5%, the highest in nearly five months.
