Weekly Watch | Fed's Most Concerned PCE to Be Announced; Meituan, Dell, Bilibili, Gear up to Print

The Weekly Calendar offers a detailed summary of the events, economic reports, and upcoming earnings reports that will influence the US and HK markets this week.

Last week, the stock market as a whole continued last week's rally, and the market is still digesting the impact of the pause in interest rate increases. On Wednesday, the Federal Reserve did not indicate a rate cut in its minutes, as markets continued to focus on earnings and the Fed's policy path.

Following three consecutive weeks of gains where most major indices were up ~10%, US equities have extended modestly higher in the holiday-shortened week. Not surprisingly we have seen volumes trail off this week as attendance wanes. A couple of soap opera-like dramas have helped to capture the attention of financial media outlets in an otherwise pretty quiet week of news flow.

Yields were moving modestly lower throughout the beginning of the week following a better-than-feared 20-year auction on Monday. However, there has been a reversal today which came in legs following economic data.

Data and Events Overview:

A speech on the economic outlook by Fed Governor James Waller on Tuesday; On Thursday, the Fed releases its Beige Book; On Friday, 2023 voting Committee and Chicago Fed President Goolsbee spoke on the economic outlook.

On the economic data front, the focus will be on Wednesday's revised third-quarter real GDP annualized quarter-on-quarter; On Thursday, China's official manufacturing PMI for November, US initial jobless claims and October core PCE price index for October; US PMIs on Friday.

On the Earnings Front:

Many listed Chinese concept stocks will release their financial reports, including Pinduoduo, Meituan, Bilibili, Zhihu, and Ali Health.
