Tesla recalls more than 1.8 million electric vehicles in the U.S.: the hood may automatically pop up to block the view

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Tuesday that Tesla's software failed to detect an unlocked hood. More than 1.8 million electric vehicles will be recalled in the United States.

The defect could cause an unlocked hood to open completely and obstruct the driver's view, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall applies to Model 3, Model S, and Model X produced from 2021 to 2024, and Model Y produced from 2020 to 2024.

NHTSA said Tesla has released an over-the-air software update to address the issue.

Last month, Tesla said it was recalling most Cybertrucks in the United States due to issues with windshield wipers and exterior trim.

Analysts estimate that the recall covers more than 70% of Cybertruck models produced.
